VR Nursing Suture Training
Designed for Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s nursing program, the suture eLearning module provided students with a virtual environment to learn and practice techniques in suturing.
Students practice their suturing techniques in a virtual environment that can be repeated as needed for better long-term retention of skills. This mobile solution can move where training is required through the various Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses around the province.

Outcomes:
This was originally designed to be a desktop PC – eLearning module. It was also WebGL compatible to allow for a wide range of users and devices across campuses.
Benefits:
One of the greatest benefits to the client was that it gave the nursing student the opportunity to assume the role of an accredited nurse attending to the care of a patient. The student felt as if they were in an actual hospital and doing the suturing. It didn’t feel like a teaching environment. This meant students were able to experience suturing much earlier in their academic timeline than they would using the traditional method. More experience in a hospital is a great benefit to a nursing student, even if it’s a VR experience.
