About the Project

Each VR scenario immerses trainees in a realistic, interactive worksite environment designed to emphasize and identify specific fall hazards. Using natural hand-based interactions, participants climb, operate tools, and navigate elevated platforms as they would on an actual job site. The simulation reinforces safe decision-making by allowing users to experience the consequences of unsafe actions without real-world risk.

When safety protocols are ignored or equipment is used improperly, the trainee witnesses the potential outcome firsthand, creating a powerful learning moment that traditional training methods cannot replicate. By the end of the simulation, participants gain a deeper appreciation for fall-protection procedures and walk away with practical, experience-based insight into why these guidelines exist and how they prevent serious injuries.

What you’ll experience

Ladder Climb

The trainee must ascend a ladder using VR hand controls, with the option to secure themselves using a carabiner attached to their safety harness. As they climb, a rung unexpectedly becomes slippery, causing the user to lose their footing. If they chose to clip in, the harness catches them — demonstrating in a visceral, memorable way how proper fall-arrest equipment prevents life-threatening accidents.

Guard Rail

This chapter places the trainee four stories above ground, tasked with tightening a loose bolt using a socket wrench. As they work, the guard rail suddenly gives way. The user experiences the rapid, disorienting fall that follows, reinforcing the critical importance of inspecting guard rails, maintaining situational awareness, and respecting height-related safety procedures. The scenario highlights how quickly a routine task can become dangerous when protective barriers fail.
