The RCMP Heritage Center's interactive exhibit significantly enhances visitor engagement by using Augmented Reality to bring a Cadet dorm room replica to life. The exhibit, Sergeant Major’s Inspection, shows guests what it’s like as a cadet to have their room inspected. The Heritage Centre partnered with Melcher Studios to create the exhibit. To prepare, Sgt. Maj. Francois Desfosses flew from Ottawa to have his mannerisms and appearance captured to be portrayed on a 3D avatar. Guests see holograms in the room that they can interact with, including a lifelike avatar that talks back and interacts using AI. Melcher Studios, 980 CJME
The interactive exhibit has created an interesting, educational experience for visitors to the Heritage Centre, providing the Centre with a new, innovative installation that increased traffic and length of visit. The introduction of technology was specifically targeted at younger guests to make learning about the rigorous training more engaging. The project was made possible through a one million dollar donation from Mosaic. Melcher Studios, 980 CJME
The RCMP Heritage Museum wanted to show the public a glimpse into a typical day in the life of an RCMP recruit. One of the secondary goals was to increase awareness of the RCMP as a career choice, by highlighting cadet training. The response to the simulator by the general public has been overwhelming.
