This virtual reality training module tests proper procedures for operating snowplows through two primary stages: a walk-around test and a driving test.
This virtual reality training module tests proper procedures for operating snowplows through two primary stages: a walk-around test and a driving test. In the walk-around mode, a checklist evaluates the user's safety knowledge before they begin a simulated route on a highway. During the driving stage, users must respond correctly to stop signs, railroad crossings, traffic, and wildlife while managing blade position and sand dispersal. The experience is facilitated by a prop snowplow cab featuring a life-sized steering wheel, joystick, and pedals.
The simulator tracks a wide range of analytics and user statistics, functioning similarly to a live driving instructor. Scoring is determined by twenty-three individual checks during the walk-around, the percentage of snow cleared, adherence to traffic signs and tracks, correct blade positioning at bridges, mirror checks, and maintaining safe speeds around wildlife. The system enables instructors to create user accounts and monitor progress through custom tracking.
The simulator provides a hazard-free environment for trainees to learn the function and layout of commands in a snowplow cab. It offers a safe and controlled way to experience dangerous scenarios, such as wildlife crossings or low-visibility conditions, without the risk of injury or equipment damage. Additionally, the system is fully customizable, allowing for logo updates, sign changes, and speed adjustments to meet specific regional requirements.
