About the Project

This training module was designed for miners working in Nutrien potash mines. The course trains workers on checking mine shaft ceilings for weakness using a sounding test. This module created a safe, controlled environment for workers to test their skills in sounding tests. The application is mobile and usable across Nutrien’s work sites, saving the company time and money in training costs. Melcher Studios

Outcomes

We were able to produce an effective VR simulation and keep it within the Quest 1’s restrictive graphic requirements that the Quest 1 has. The simulation provided the company a much safer way to train personnel in a very necessary but dangerous procedure while simulating the real-world training procedures. Melcher Studios

Benefits

Nutrien wanted the ability to train their personnel in a very important procedure, while also eliminating as much risk as possible. VR enabled them to do just that. This training can take place in a room kilometers from a mine tunnel, and yet be as effective as the real thing. Melcher was able to simulate a dangerous sounding scenario in order for the trainee to experience finding a weakened portion of the mine tunnel roof, without the risk of that trainee getting hurt.
