About this simulation
Participants step into the role of a Continuing Care Assistant, immersing themselves in a realistic and thoughtfully guided simulation. The experience opens with an endorsement briefing, during which an NPC nurse outlines the expectations for the shift and provides a comprehensive Shift Debrief Report. This document serves as the participant's roadmap, detailing the tasks, objectives, and responsibilities they will navigate throughout the simulation.
With support from a narrator, participants move through a sequence of interactive, hands-on scenarios. Each task is performed using highly detailed 3D recreations of care-home equipment, allowing participants to practice essential skills in a safe, controlled environment. Throughout the experience, the narrator offers practical guidance, best practices, and contextual insights to deepen understanding of the Continuing Care Assistant role. Participants will also encounter realistic challenges commonly faced in continuing care settings, reinforcing the importance of critical thinking, empathy, and sound decision-making.

Sling Lift
The simulation begins with an introduction to the role and the care environment. Participants meet their NPC partner and the patient they will be assisting. The first task requires safely positioning the patient into a sling lift and transferring them to the washroom, emphasizing proper technique and patient comfort.

Nail Cutting
The experience then transitions into personal hygiene care. The narrator highlights the importance of maintaining short, clean nails for resident safety and comfort. Participants must communicate effectively with a hesitant patient, building trust and encouraging cooperation before completing the nail-cutting procedure.

Bathing
Participants learn to provide a safe and respectful bathing experience using a bath lift. They must ensure the water temperature is appropriate, thoroughly wash the patient, and dry them properly — reinforcing both technical skill and compassionate care.

Meal Assistance
The final section focuses on supporting the patient during mealtime. Participants practice proper hygiene, safe feeding techniques, and attentive observation to ensure the patient's comfort and nutritional needs are met.
