VR Career Exploration for Newcomers, Job Seekers and Workforce Programs
Let your clients try a career before committing to it. VR Hub's 26+ job simulations cover hospitality, trades, transport, care and more — language-light, newcomer-friendly, and trusted by workforce partners across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Remove the Fear of the Unknown Before Clients Commit
The most common reason clients hesitate before training is uncertainty — they do not know what the job actually feels like. VR Hub closes that gap in 15 minutes.
Try the Job Before You Commit — Career Exploration in VR
When a client is considering training for truck driving, welding, or front desk management, the uncertainty is real — will I be able to do this? Will I like it? For newcomers especially, Canadian workplace environments can feel unfamiliar before they have ever set foot in one.
VR Hub puts your client inside those environments — behind the wheel of a transport truck on a Saskatchewan highway, in front of a hotel check-in desk, in a commercial kitchen during a busy service — before any training commitment. When they decide to pursue a path, they do it with actual experience, not just a job description.
- Experience 26+ Canadian workplace environments in VR
- Removes fear of the unknown for clients new to Canadian workplaces
- Language-light modules — visual cues, not text walls

Built With Work Prep — The Truck Driver Module Origin Story
The VR Hub Truck Driver module was developed in direct partnership with the Regina Work Preparation Centre. Work Prep runs Employment Pathways, a career exploration programme serving newcomers and job seekers — and they identified trucking as a high-demand career path that clients were reluctant to pursue without any experience of what Class 1 / AZ driving actually feels like.
The result is a simulation of a pre-trip vehicle inspection and highway drive across Saskatchewan. Clients who complete the module consistently report that the experience gave them the information they needed to decide — in either direction. That's the point: confident decisions, not just more referrals.

Stats Hub — Data for Career Counsellors and Program Managers
After each VR session, Stats Hub gives career counsellors a concrete starting point for the debrief conversation. How long did the client spend in each simulation? Which module did they complete fastest? Where did they hesitate or repeat a step? This is objective aptitude data — not just self-reported interest.
For programme managers, Stats Hub provides an aggregate view across all client sessions: which modules are most popular, completion rates, and engagement trends. This data is useful for reporting to funders and for making decisions about which career pathways to prioritise in your programme design.
- Per-client session data for counsellor debrief conversations
- Aggregate programme analytics for funder reporting
- Completion and engagement trends across your client cohort

Front Desk Manager
Check in a hotel guest — verify the reservation, assign a room, process payment, handle a special request. A practical experience of front desk work in a branded Canadian hotel environment.
Line Cook Experience
Work a station in a commercial kitchen — prep ingredients, follow a ticket, manage timing, and plate under pressure. Gives clients a realistic feel for kitchen pace and hierarchy before pursuing culinary training.
Room Attendant Experience
Turn over a hotel room following a standard housekeeping procedure — strip linens, make the bed, clean the bathroom, and reset amenities. A clear look at what accommodation service work actually involves.
Welding Simulation
Pick up a MIG welder and practise bead technique in VR — body position, arc distance, travel speed. Clients who have never held a welding torch leave with a clear sense of whether trades are for them.

What Clients and Programme Staff Say
Real outcomes from newcomers, job seekers, and the workforce programmes that supported them.
"When I came to Canada, I had experience but didn't know how to get started in the job market here. The staff at Employment Pathways helped me understand my options. The virtual reality career exploration — it allowed me to try out different jobs in a realistic way. I could see myself doing the work before deciding to pursue training for it."
"The Virtual Reality Program gave me the skills and self-assurance I needed to shift careers. I started with H&R Block, then moved to CIBC, and now I've been promoted to a management role. Work Prep's support and the VR training gave me the confidence to keep moving forward."
"After nearly a decade of struggling with mental health, I felt stuck. IM&M+ gave me back my confidence and purpose. With their support, I completed computer training through Work Prep and began job searching. The programme — and the tools they put in front of us — changed my trajectory."
Common Questions from Workforce Agencies
Practical answers for settlement programmes, employment centres, and career counsellors considering VR Hub.
Most VR Hub modules are designed with minimal on-screen text and use visual and spatial cues to guide participants through the simulation. This makes them accessible to newcomers who are still developing English proficiency — the experience communicates through doing rather than reading. Career counsellors typically conduct a brief orientation before the session, which can be delivered in the client's first language. Language settings including Chinese, Spanish, and French are available in the interface.
Newcomers often face a double barrier — unfamiliar with Canadian workplace culture and uncertain which careers match their existing skills. VR career exploration lets them try a job role in a realistic Canadian workplace environment — a hotel front desk, a commercial kitchen, a driving cab — before committing to training. A client from the Employment Pathways program at the Regina Work Preparation Centre described it as being able to try out different jobs in a realistic way, helping them understand which path to pursue in Canada.
Yes. A single headset rotates through a group efficiently — most career exploration modules are 10 to 20 minutes. The Facilitator Tool lets your career counsellor manage sessions, monitor progress, and debrief the group after each simulation. For larger cohorts or simultaneous group delivery, Melcher Studios' Hardware Package includes multiple headsets delivered in person with setup support. Contact us to discuss group session pricing.
Stats Hub captures module completion, time on task, and performance scores for every session. Career counsellors use this data to identify which simulations a client engaged with most strongly, how quickly they completed tasks, and where they struggled. This is especially useful for aptitude conversations — if a client completes the Welding module faster than average and scores well, that is a data point worth discussing in a follow-up session.
VR Hub is not currently integrated with case management or placement software directly, but Stats Hub exports are designed to be shareable. Many workforce agencies use VR Hub as a career exploration tool at the front of their intake process — clients complete a selection of modules, counsellors review the session data, and that informs referrals to trades training, hospitality programmes, or other pathways. Contact us to discuss your programme structure.
Yes. One VR Hub subscription covers multiple locations. This is particularly useful for settlement agencies with satellite offices or outreach programmes in rural communities. Melcher Studios' Hardware Package can supply headsets to multiple sites, and Stats Hub consolidates session analytics across all locations so your program manager has a single view of engagement and completion across the agency.
