Set within a realistic home environment, the experience takes learners through blood glucose testing and insulin administration from initial preparation through to documentation, cleanup, and disposal.
Throughout the simulation, learners interact directly with virtual medical equipment, including a glucose meter, lancing device, test strips, insulin pen, medication records, and sharps container. Step-by-step guidance reinforces proper hygiene, equipment handling, blood glucose monitoring, insulin preparation, injection techniques, and safe disposal practices.
By allowing these procedures to be practiced repeatedly in VR, the simulation provides an accessible way to build familiarity and confidence with the equipment and processes before applying these skills when supporting individuals in real-world settings.

Blood Glucose Testing
Learners work through the complete process of performing a blood glucose test for a person supported. This includes preparing supplies, following proper hand hygiene procedures, preparing the lancing device and glucose meter, obtaining a blood sample, and recording the resulting glucose reading.
Learners are also challenged to interpret the results and observe the person supported for signs of high or low blood sugar. Based on the symptoms presented, they identify the condition and review the appropriate first aid response before completing proper equipment cleaning and sharps disposal.

Insulin Preparation & Injection
Learners practice the steps required to safely prepare and administer insulin using an insulin pen. The scenario begins with reviewing the person supported's Medication Administration Record to confirm the prescribed insulin type, dose, and timing.
From there, learners inspect and prepare the insulin, attach and prime a new needle, select the prescribed dose, confirm the injection site with the person supported, and practice administering the injection using proper technique. The scenario concludes with safe needle disposal, equipment cleaning, and documentation of the completed injection.
