About this simulation

Participants step into a supportive transportation environment to build competency in the inspections and procedures required to safely operate a lift-equipped bus. The experience begins with a guided introduction from a professional narrator, who walks learners through a comprehensive pre-trip inspection checklist. Each checklist item is interactive, allowing participants to select it and receive detailed instruction on what to inspect, why it matters, and what potential issues to look for — reinforcing both procedural knowledge and critical thinking.

The inspection process begins with a thorough exterior review of the vehicle. Within a fully interactive 3D recreation of a lift-equipped bus, participants maneuver around the vehicle to examine the inspection sticker, lights, windshield and wipers, windows, tires and lug nuts, exhaust system, emergency exits, rear window, fuel system, overall body condition, mirrors, oil level, washer fluid, and antifreeze.

Participants then move inside the vehicle to complete a detailed interior inspection. This includes verifying insurance and registration, assessing cleanliness, checking warning indicators, monitoring for exhaust fumes, and testing signal and hazard lights. Learners also inspect interior lighting, wipers and washer systems, mirrors, the parking brake, horn, seatbelts, safety equipment, the wheelchair lift, and the Q'STRAINT securement system.

Once the inspection is successfully completed, participants transition to passenger boarding procedures. The process begins with safely deploying the lift and preparing securement systems. As each passenger boards, the learner must ensure wheelchair brakes are engaged, seatbelts are properly fastened, and the passenger confirms readiness before being elevated into the bus. Inside the vehicle, the participant uses the Q'STRAINT system to secure the wheelchair correctly, emphasizing passenger safety and comfort at every step.
