About this simulation

Participants assume the role of a Line Cook, gaining firsthand experience in the pace, precision, and professionalism required in a commercial kitchen. The experience opens with a guided introduction outlining the responsibilities of the role, with particular emphasis on essential soft skills such as organization, cleanliness, time management, and attention to detail.

Learners begin by preparing for meal service, gradually becoming familiar with the virtual kitchen environment. With guidance from the narrator, they navigate the space, access cold storage, and begin organizing ingredients using realistic 3D recreations of professional kitchen equipment and food storage systems. From proper labeling protocols to maintaining hygienic workstations, each task reinforces industry best practices.

As the simulation progresses, participants engage in increasingly complex responsibilities reflective of a real line cook's daily workflow. The narrator highlights the importance of efficiency, food safety, and organization, creating a dynamic and practical learning experience designed to build confidence and competence in a fast-paced culinary setting.

What you'll experience

  1. Prepare for Meal Service

Participants begin the day by organizing ingredients in cold storage. They inspect fresh produce, identify and discard spoiled items, and label all products according to the First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory system to ensure proper stock rotation and food safety compliance.

  2. Washing Produce

Learners wash vegetables following proper sanitation procedures and store them in designated containers, reinforcing cleanliness and safe food handling standards.

  3. Slicing Produce

Participants prepare washed produce using the correct cutting techniques while adhering to colour-coded cross-contamination prevention systems. Once prepared, ingredients are stored in appropriate containers and labeled with FIFO identifiers.

  4. Preparing Chicken

This module introduces safe handling of raw poultry. Participants retrieve chicken from cold storage while following FIFO protocols. They select the correct colour-coded knife and cutting board to prevent cross-contamination, properly dice the chicken, and practice hand hygiene before moving on to seasoning and basting. The task concludes with safely cooking the chicken to the appropriate internal temperature.

  5. Cooking Burgers

Participants manage incoming orders and prepare burgers and fries to specification. Emphasis is placed on timing, doneness, presentation, and maintaining quality standards in a busy service environment.

  6. Salad Preparation

In the final task, participants prepare salads without guided narration. Drawing on knowledge gained throughout the simulation — organization, food safety, sanitation, and efficiency — they complete the order independently, reinforcing retention and practical application of skills.
