About this simulation

Participants step into a supportive care environment to build practical competency in safe and effective medication administration. The experience begins with a guided introduction from a narrator, who underscores the critical role of hygiene in patient safety. Participants are prompted to wash their hands; an intentional first task that reinforces infection control best practices while also allowing users to become comfortable with the VR controls and environment. After completing hand hygiene, participants must properly don gloves before proceeding.

The learner then accesses the electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) system to determine which medications are due and for whom. Once a patient is selected, the narrator emphasizes the importance of the "Six Rights" of medication administration: the right person, right time, right dose, right drug, right route, and right documentation. These checks are embedded throughout the simulation, reinforcing their consistent application at every stage of the process.

Participants retrieve the appropriate medication from storage and complete a structured series of verification checks as the medication is removed and later returned. Each step must be documented within the eMAR system. Finally, the prepared medication is delivered to the correct patient. Participants observe and identify potential side effects, then document the administered medication, reinforcing the full cycle of safe, responsible medication management.
