About this simulation
Participants enter a supportive care environment to develop competency in safe sling and mechanical lift procedures. Guided by a narrator, learners are introduced to their first task: preparing a patient for transfer using a ceiling lift system.
The experience begins with proper pre-transfer preparation. Participants are instructed to position the patient correctly beneath the lift, ensuring the wheelchair is aligned and securely locked before proceeding. They are then guided through the critical decision-making process of selecting the appropriate sling based on patient needs and safety considerations.
After inspecting and choosing the correct sling, participants carefully position it around the patient. The narrator provides clear, step-by-step instruction on securing each loop to the lift, reinforcing correct attachment points and emphasizing safety checks throughout the process. With the patient's consent, learners operate the lift to raise the patient smoothly and transfer them safely into an armchair, demonstrating controlled movement and attentive support. The process is then repeated to return the patient, ensuring proper guidance during descent.
The simulation concludes with safe removal of the sling and proper equipment storage. This experience builds technical proficiency while emphasizing attention to detail, patient dignity, communication, and the high standard of care required in supportive healthcare environments.
